Serving for a Cause: Students Support Chef’s Extravaganza

At Helms College, education is more than mastering skills—it’s about making a difference. This was beautifully illustrated when 14 of our culinary students volunteered at the 21st annual Helping Hands “A Chef’s Extravaganza” fundraiser on Saturday, November 2. Held in the Palmetto Terrace Ballroom at the North Augusta Municipal Building, the event invited guests on a “Journey to North Africa” through an exquisite six-course dining experience prepared by local chefs. Each course was thoughtfully paired with fine wines, creating a memorable culinary journey for a noble cause.

Helms students served as the evening’s waitstaff, gaining firsthand experience in fine dining service. This role not only showcased their skills but also provided an invaluable opportunity to practice professional service in a live event setting. The students received high praise for their professionalism, teamwork, and dedication throughout the night.

A Helms education is a commitment to immersive learning, ensuring students gain both practical skills and a strong sense of community impact. As they learn the art of fine dining service, our students also experience the importance of supporting local causes and “providing a hand up, not a handout”—values we uphold and instill in each student.

Helping Hands, Inc. has provided crucial support to youth and families in need since 1973, making this event a perfect opportunity for our students to see how their hospitality skills can make a real difference.

We’re proud of our students for stepping up to support such a meaningful cause, and we thank Helping Hands, Inc. for allowing us to give back to our community in such a meaningful way.
