Our Students

Helms College reflects a learning experience enriched by true Southern hospitality. What is Southern hospitality? It’s people helping other people, treating them with kindness, openness, warmth, graciousness, and respect, because it’s the right thing to do. Similarly, Helms College provides a welcoming and nurturing campus environment for its students. The entire College community works together for the good of the students, thereby ensuring that the goals they want to achieve in their lives—both personally and professionally—are supported. Helms College teaches its students to dare to live fully and to make a difference not only in their own lives, but also in the lives of others.

In this welcoming environment, students enjoy small class sizes. Professors are instructors and mentors who are true practitioners of their craft. They share their knowledge, skills and experiences with their students. With its diverse student body, students at Helms College are not just classmates and study partners. They are part of a warm and welcoming family, where close and caring friendships are built.

Academic advising is provided to all Helms College students in an effort to ensure that they meet the satisfactory academic progress and attendance standards for their programs of study. Additionally, student advisors serve as mentors to students and work with them on the life skills that will be essential during their educational journey and after their education is complete. The Office of Student Services acknowledges that there are a variety of factors that impact the likelihood of success for our students, so HC personnel strive to eliminate as many of those barriers as possible through education, support, and empowerment. This close case-management approach allows student advisors to address a student’s personal circumstances that may impede their educational progress and suggest methods of dealing with these situations.
