Healthcare is a broad field with many opportunities. There are few industries in which a person can work such varied jobs all in the same line of work. With the wide range of options, it can be a challenge to find a starting point. The good news is, at Helms College we make it easy to find your starting point. Whether you’re a high school graduate heading to school for the first time or taking the leap towards a career change, chances are, you’re probably looking for an option that can get you into the field quickly.
Here at Helms, we offer a variety of possible career paths that will provide you with a high-quality healthcare education in less than two years. As part of our School of Health Services, we offer a Medical Administrative Assistant (MAA) program, which has a 9-month course curriculum; a Patient Care Technician (PCT) program that also has a 9-month curriculum; and a Multi-Skilled Medical Assistant program, which has a course curriculum of 12 months.
PCTs can work in hospitals, long-term care facilities and urgent care centers. They have three specialties to choose from: EKG, phlebotomy and CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant). PCTs also sit for the Certified Patient Care Technician exam.
MAAs generally work in medical offices. There are two specialties to choose from: Certified Medical Billing and Coding Specialist or Certified Medical Administrative Assistant.
In addition to being timely, our programs have an externship component that allows students to receive hands-on training. Here at the School of Health Services, we are ACCET accredited, which means we can offer federal financial aid to those who qualify. Helms College also offers 4 scholarship possibilities. In addition, we offer job placement services and work with students through Career Services.
The School of Health Services will begin classes on August 23. Our school offers a more affordable option than similar institutions for people interested in pursuing entry-level careers.
